The Department of Basic Education is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual for the position of Director within the Chief Directorate of Planning and Implementation Support, specifically in the Directorate of Education Management and Governance Development. The Director will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, management, and guidance in the areas of school management and governance. The position is based in Pretoria, and the salary offered is R1,162,200 per annum.
Requirements:
Applicants must hold a recognised Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification, as well as a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent at NQF Level 7. A relevant post-graduate qualification will be advantageous. Extensive experience in school management and governance is essential, with at least five years of experience at the Middle/Senior Managerial level in the Education sector. Previous experience as a school principal or circuit manager is also required. A valid driver’s license is necessary, and the applicant must be willing to travel extensively. - This includes managing professional and School Governing Body Associations, identifying and sharing best practices in planning and effective implementation, managing finances in compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, addressing blockages to planning and implementation, maintaining a database of expertise, and compiling analytic reports.

Director – Ref No: DBE/19/2023
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Director in the Chief Directorate of Financial Services. This position falls under the Directorate of Security and Assets Management and is based in Pretoria. The Director will receive an annual salary of R1,162,200.
Requirements:
Applicants must possess a recognised Senior Certificate or equivalent, as well as a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7) recognised by SAQA. A minimum of 5 years of experience at the Middle/Senior Managerial level with relevant experience, preferably within corporate services, is required. Deputy Director (School Improvement Support) – Ref: DBE/20/2023
The Department of Basic Education is seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Deputy Director (School Improvement Support) in the Chief Directorate of Planning and Implementation Support. This position falls under the Directorate of School-Level Planning and Implementation Support. The appointment will be on a one-year renewable contract basis. The role is based in KwaZulu-Natal, and the annual salary for this position is R811,560 (Level 11).
Requirements:
Applicants must possess a relevant three-year post-matric qualification (NQF level 6) or equivalent, along with four years of relevant experience at the supervisory level. Having a post-graduate degree will be an advantage. The candidate should have at least five years of experience in management and leadership at the school level as a Deputy Principal or Principal, or relevant managerial experience. Additionally, three years of experience in implementing and managing school improvement support initiatives is required. The applicant should possess knowledge of matrix and project management, analytical skills, excellent people management skills, report writing and presentation skills, and computer skills in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook). The ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, work independently without supervision, willingness to work extensive hours, and travel is essential. A valid driver’s license is also required. - The Deputy Director will collaborate with district officials, particularly district Directors and Circuit Managers, to provide support to struggling circuits and schools.
- They will identify conceptual, capacity, and operational challenges hindering the effective delivery of quality education in schools.
- Leading and supporting a team of provincial-based officials, the Deputy Director will enhance the capacity of circuits and schools to utilise data effectively in supporting schools and individual teachers.
- The successful candidate will implement and manage various interventions aimed at improving the quality of education in underperforming circuits.
- This includes providing mentoring and coaching to circuit managers in poor performing circuits and challenging contexts.
- Managing a diverse team of school improvement support officials, the Deputy Director will oversee the implementation of turnaround strategies for underperforming circuits, ensure sustainability of expertise, and develop plans to address identified weaknesses in teaching, management, leadership, and collegiality.

These positions fall under the Directorate of School-Level Planning and Implementation Support and are available on a one-year renewable contract basis. The posts are located in KwaZulu-Natal (2) and Limpopo (4), with an annual salary of R424,104 (Level 9).
Requirements:
Applicants must possess an appropriate three-year relevant post-matric qualification (NQF level 6) or equivalent qualification in Education, including professional teacher education and registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) as a professional Educator. Having a post-graduate degree will be an advantage. Candidates should have a minimum of six years of teaching experience and at least two years of relevant experience at the supervisory level. A good understanding of the education sector in South Africa and experience in managing project implementations are required. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to produce quality work under pressure, manage deadlines, work effectively with people at different levels, interpret and utilise performance data to identify and address gaps, be a team player while also being able to work autonomously, have knowledge of Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) and programme development, be computer literate, possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have good communication skills (written and verbal). - The successful candidates will develop plans to address identified weaknesses and improve teaching, evaluate circuit priorities and deliverables, work with circuit managers to implement circuit improvement plans, monitor and refine responsive improvement plans, oversee the implementation of turnaround strategies for identified circuits, and ensure sustainability of expertise.
- They will also compile and present progress reports on programmes undertaken on behalf of the Department of Basic Education (DBE).
