Key Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will provide support to the CRSES NEXT portfolio and the SARChI Chair in Power Systems Simulation. Key duties include:
Research and Documentation Support
- Assist with preparing, editing, and formatting research reports, proposals, and presentations
- Collect data and maintain research databases
- Assist with writing research reports and proposals
Administrative Support
- Coordinate communication within the research team and across university departments
- Manage schedules, arrange meetings, and handle correspondence
- Organize meetings, conferences, and workshops
- Manage the procurement of office equipment and office supplies
Financial and Procurement Assistance
- Support financial operations, including budget preparation
- Process invoices and track payments and expenses
Logistics and Travel Coordination
- Arrange travel and accommodation for research staff
- Act as the point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
Minimum Job Requirements
To qualify for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Essential Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Work Experience: At least two years of experience in an administrative or research-related role
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Afrikaans proficiency is advantageous)
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree (advantageous)
- Research Skills: Experience in writing research reports and proposals
- Financial Skills: Accounting or budgeting experience
