Job Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma in Security Management, Police Administration, Investigation, or an equivalent qualification within the security cluster.
- PSIRA Grade A certificate – This certification ensures compliance with professional security standards.
- A valid driver’s license (Code 8) – Required for mobility and effective security management.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of five years of experience as a security officer.
- Out of the five years:
- At least two years in guarding and patrolling.
- At least three years in a supervisory or managerial role, including conducting investigations.
- A clear criminal record is mandatory – Applicants must provide a South African Police Service (SAPS) clearance certificate with their application.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The selected candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining security at the Butterworth Campus. The main responsibilities include:
1. Security and Risk Management:
- Develop and implement preventative measures against incidents such as theft, property damage, and personal injury.
- Assess potential security risks and implement proportionate safety measures.
- Ensure protection of staff, students, visitors, and university property.
2. Supervision and Control:
- Oversee and schedule security personnel on shifts.
- Manage access control, guarding, and patrolling to prevent security breaches.
- Ensure proper maintenance and usage of security equipment.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
- Inspect all security documentation and registers to ensure accuracy.
- Record and document all security incidents and provide monthly reports to management.
4. Emergency and Conflict Resolution:
- Plan and respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Handle conflicts within the campus and implement appropriate resolutions.
5. Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager.
