Key Responsibilities
As a Social Worker for the FastPrEP study, your role will be centered on supporting vulnerable participants in crisis and providing debriefing services to staff who work with these participants. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Counselling and Containment Support: Providing immediate counselling and emotional support to participants identified during survey sessions. This will include problem-solving and containment counselling.
- Referral Systems: Managing and coordinating referrals to the appropriate services or support systems, ensuring that participants receive follow-up care. You’ll also handle all relevant documentation and maintain accurate records.
- Psychoeducation: Facilitating psychoeducational sessions with participants, focusing on problem-solving skills and emotional resilience.
- Debriefing for Staff: Offering debriefing sessions to staff members who work directly with vulnerable participants, ensuring they also receive the emotional support needed to perform their duties effectively.
- Case Management and Reporting: Coordinating case management activities and keeping detailed, confidential records of participants. You’ll also be responsible for producing timely reports and maintaining an up-to-date resource catalog.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Tertiary qualification in Social Work with current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
- Experience:
- At least 3-4 years of experience in a similar social work role involving case management and administration.
- Experience working with adolescents in Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services is essential.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and its related healthcare needs.
- Experience with containment counselling, debriefing, and psychoeducation will be highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with working in research environments would be beneficial but not mandatory.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English and isiXhosa is essential.
- Proficient in MS Office and able to manage data accurately.
- Report writing skills and the ability to maintain detailed and confidential records.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays, with compensation during weekdays.
- Code 08 Driver’s License.
Additional Information
This is a part-time contract position, requiring the successful candidate to work 3 days per week, with occasional Saturday work. The position is based at Philippi Village, a location known for its community focus and access to underserved populations. Applicants must be willing to work within this area and should preferably be female.
