Key Responsibilities
The Student Counsellor will work to support the wellbeing and academic success of students by:
- Individual Support: Providing counselling and therapy to students facing academic, social, or personal challenges.
- Skills Development: Conducting workshops to enhance academic, career, and personal development.
- Wellness Promotion: Organizing wellness programs and supporting the peer helping program.
- Psychometric Assessment: Facilitating psychometric tests and providing feedback to guide students’ career planning and personal growth.
- Advocacy and Consulting: Collaborating with university staff on student retention strategies, offering recommendations to address academic and psychosocial barriers.
- Research and Program Development: Participating in research initiatives and developing projects to promote student health and wellbeing.
- Administration and Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate documentation and managing departmental projects effectively.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the position, you need:
- A Master’s Degree in Clinical, Counselling, or Educational Psychology.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Psychologist.
- At least one year of experience as a registered psychologist.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following are advantageous:
- Experience working with diverse student populations at higher education institutions.
- Previous experience in a Student Counselling Centre setting.
