Job Description
The Department of Basic Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join its team as an Assistant Director in the Directorate of Education Labour Relations Management and Conditions of Services. This role falls under the Chief Directorate of Education Human Resources Management within the Branch of Teacher and Professional Development.
Requirements
- Possession of an appropriate three-year relevant (NQF level 6) post-matric qualification or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA in the field of Labour Relations.
- At least two years of relevant working experience in the education sector at a supervisory level, including two years of experience in Labour Relations in the education sector.
- Exposure and experience in collective bargaining at both the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) and Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) environment.
- Understanding of the Human Resource Strategies and Policies for the Department of Basic Education.
- Knowledge of the education policy environment and government prescripts.
- Familiarity with monitoring, evaluating, and reporting systems and processes.
- Proficiency in the educational framework and policies, labour law, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Employment of Educators Act and conditions of service for educators.
- Understanding of Public Service and Labour Legislations.
- Strong planning, prioritization, and execution abilities.
- Ability to work independently and a willingness to work long hours when required.
- Capacity to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization related to Education Labour Relations and Conditions of Service.
- Strong operational planning and management skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
Duties
- Participating in meetings between labour and employer to discuss and resolve mutual interest issues.
- Scheduling and coordinating Employer Caucus meetings and providing secretarial services to the negotiating team.
- Assisting the negotiating team in planning, obtaining mandates, and providing support.
- Contributing to the improvement of educator employment conditions.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitoring, supporting, and reporting on Provincial implementation of Collective Agreements and Human Resources Policies.
- Preparing quarterly and annual reports as required.
- Managing and monitoring the implementation of Collective Agreements between the Department and recognized trade unions.
- Assisting the Chief Negotiator in liaising with trade unions on matters of mutual interest.

Job Description
The Department of Basic Education is seeking two qualified and dedicated individuals to join its Directorate of Internal Audit within the Branch of the Office of the Director-General. These Internal Auditor positions will be part of the Sub-Directorate of Regularity and Performance Audit.
Requirements
- Possession of an appropriate 3-year degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 6) in Accounting, Auditing, or Internal Auditing.
- Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors will be considered an added advantage.
- At least two years of relevant experience in Internal Audit or exposure to External Audit.
- Knowledge and skills in Internal Auditing, Risk Management, Accounting, and Corporate Governance.
- Exposure to Public Service legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Benchmarking and networking skills to stay updated with current developments in the field of auditing.
- Possession of a driver’s license will be an added advantage.
Duties
- Conducting audit projects from planning to reporting.
- Assisting in evaluating the department’s governance, risk management, and control processes.
- Conducting audits to determine and evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of controls in accordance with the audit methodology.
- Contributing to the achievement of the internal audit coverage plan.
- Collecting information and participating in the compilation of reports to the accounting officer and audit committee.
- Keeping up to date with new developments in the internal audit environment.
