    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    As a Social Auxiliary Worker, your primary function will be to assist social workers in providing essential services to vulnerable populations. Some of the key responsibilities include:

    1. Providing Assistance and Support to Social Workers: You will aid social workers in delivering social work services for the care, protection, and development of individuals, groups, families, and communities.
    2. Supporting Vulnerable Groups: Your work will focus on vulnerable individuals and communities, providing support and helping address social instability in any form.
    3. Administrative Support: You will perform administrative tasks to assist social workers in managing cases effectively. This includes record keeping, report writing, and organizing client data.
    4. Professional Development: Continuing professional development is important, and as part of your role, you will be expected to enhance your skills and knowledge to better serve the community.
    5. Client-Oriented Services: You’ll engage with clients directly, ensuring that their needs are met with dignity and respect, which is essential in a role dedicated to social well-being.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for one of these Social Auxiliary Worker vacancies, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Grade 1: A minimum of Grade 10 plus completion of a learnership that allows for registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Auxiliary Worker.
    • Registration with SACSSP as a Social Auxiliary Worker.
    • A valid Code B driving licence is required for travel within the region.

    Desirable Competencies

    In addition to the minimum qualifications, there are several competencies that will help you succeed in this role:

    1. Knowledge and Understanding: You should have a basic understanding of human behavior, relationship systems, social issues, and South Africa’s social welfare context.
    2. Legislation and Policy Knowledge: Familiarity with South Africa’s judicial system and the legislation governing social auxiliary work is essential.
    3. Financial Literacy: A basic understanding of financial matters related to social auxiliary work is a plus.
    4. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
    5. Organizational Skills: The ability to plan, organize, and facilitate tasks efficiently will be crucial in this fast-paced environment.
    6. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are needed to address the challenges social workers encounter in their daily work.
    7. Client Focus: Demonstrating a commitment to client care and a customer-focused mindset will be key to your success.

    Remuneration

    The salary for the Social Auxiliary Worker positions will vary based on experience and qualifications. The following is the prescribed remuneration:

    • Grade 1: R192,972 – R218,409 per annum.
    • Grade 2: R227,292 – R259,368 per annum.
    • Grade 3: R270,009 – R339,439 per annum.

    This remuneration is part of the Occupation-Specific Dispensation (OSD) and is inclusive of all benefits such as medical assistance, pension fund contributions, and housing assistance.
