Requirements
To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.
- Professional Registration: Must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
- Experience:
- Prior experience in a mental health setting, psychiatric hospital, or within the Department of Health.
- Experience in working with families of psychiatric patients and providing psychoeducation and supportive counselling.
- Experience in administrative duties like report writing, record keeping, and collating statistics.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in working with families of psychiatric patients.
- Ability to deliver psychoeducation and supportive counselling.
- Knowledge of health, mental health, and public service legislation and policies.
- Effective communication skills for working within a multidisciplinary team and engaging with external stakeholders.
- Computer literacy.
- Other Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Specialized Social Work Services:
- Provide care, protection, support, and development for vulnerable mental health care users and their families.
- Utilize all methods of social work, including individual, group, and community work.
- Collaboration:
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team by attending ward rounds and team meetings.
- Engage with other professionals to coordinate care and services for patients.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Compile statistics, write reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) trainings and self-development programmes to ensure skills remain relevant.
- Programme Implementation:
- Implement and monitor social work programmes that support patient care and family assistance.
- Design and deliver psychoeducational sessions for patients and their families.
Candidates will also undergo Medical Surveillance as part of the application process.
