Communication Officer Job Description
The selected candidate will be instrumental in producing high-quality video content that aligns with the university’s branding and communication goals. Reporting to the Corporate Communication Department, you will work closely with various university departments and play a critical role in capturing and showcasing university events, programs, and other strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As the Communication Officer (Videographer), you will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. Video Production
- Plan, film, and edit high-quality video content for platforms such as the university website, social media, and internal communication.
- Set up lighting, sound, and camera equipment for all video productions.
- Coordinate and execute video shoots for events, interviews, and campus activities.
2. Creative Development
- Collaborate with Corporate Relations and Marketing, as well as the Digital Media Team, to develop concepts and scripts for video projects.
- Stay current on trends in video production and propose innovative ideas to engage target audiences.
3. Post-Production
- Perform tasks such as editing, sound mixing, adding graphics, and special effects during post-production.
- Ensure all video content meets NWU’s branding guidelines and quality standards.
4. Collaboration
- Work with various university faculties, departments, staff, and students to ensure a smooth video production process.
- Engage in cross-functional teamwork for large projects, providing video coverage for key university events.
5. Project Management and Personal Development
- Maintain a systematic approach to managing multiple video projects simultaneously.
- Keep up to date with new software, video production tools, and multimedia design techniques to deliver innovative solutions.
6. Ad Hoc Tasks
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by management to contribute to the overall success of the Corporate Communication Department.
- Participate in professional development activities to continuously enhance skills and knowledge.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Communication Officer role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Educational Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Film, Communications, Media Production, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in video production, including working with video equipment such as cameras, lighting, and audio setups.
- At least one year of experience using graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Davinci, or After Effects.
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent administrative, managerial, and project management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design.
- Driver’s license (compulsory).
