    Core Purpose of the Administrative Assistant Role

    The Administrative Assistant in Student Disciplinary Hearings plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the university’s disciplinary standards are upheld. This role’s core purpose is to maintain discipline and compliance with NMU policies and the Higher Education Act, ensuring a respectful and productive learning environment for all students. Key responsibilities include:

    • Facilitating and organizing student disciplinary hearings.
    • Coordinating with the Senior Director, Legal Advisors, and other university stakeholders to handle cases efficiently.
    • Managing documentation and issuing important notices, such as No Contact Orders and processing disciplinary sanctions.
    • Assisting in Pardon Committee meetings and ensuring a smooth process flow for student disciplinary hearings.

    Key Responsibilities

    In this role, the Administrative Assistant will be responsible for:

    1. Paralegal Support for Disciplinary Matters
      • Offer paralegal assistance, ensuring all cases align with university policies and legal standards.
    2. Coordination of Disciplinary Hearings
      • Arrange set-down dates for hearings and ensure all logistics are in place for each session.
    3. Documentation Management
      • Maintain an effective system for managing documents and communications related to student discipline.
    4. Communication with Staff and Students
      • Serve as a liaison, ensuring accurate, professional information flow among relevant parties.
    5. Claims Processing
      • Process claims for committee members and chairpersons, maintaining a smooth administrative process.
    6. Support to Ombuds and Adjudicator
      • Provide a professional and reliable service to ensure disciplinary procedures are adhered to with integrity.
    7. Educational Outreach
      • Conduct awareness campaigns and workshops to inform students about NMU’s disciplinary policies.

      • Experience in handling high volumes of varied cases with attention to detail.
      • Ability to operate within the established NMU procedures and manage high-pressure situations.
