Cricket South Africa (CSA), the national body overseeing cricket in the country, is currently inviting applications for two fixed-term Coach Developer positions. These roles are critical to the growth and development of South African cricket, focusing on the training, certification, and continuous development of cricket coaches across CSA’s Member structures.
Successful candidates will work closely with CSA’s National Coach Education & Development programmes, maintaining the standards, directives, and criteria of the Coach Education & Development Department. Key Responsibilities
The appointed Coach Developers will be responsible for several key performance areas aimed at promoting effective coaching practices nationwide:
- Facilitation and Administration of Coach Education Programmes:
- Engaging with the Member Coach Education Committee to assess and address coaching needs and develop an annual coaching education plan.
- Facilitating Level 1 and Level 2 coaching courses as part of the approved plan.
- Providing support to other CSA Coach Developers in implementing their education programmes.
- Conducting Level 3 assessments and submitting courses for verification by the CSA Coach Education office.
- Maintaining and managing a comprehensive coaches’ database.
- Introducing new provincial coach developers to their roles within the structure.
- Coordination of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programmes:
- Conducting Level 2 refresher courses for designated members.
- Leading Coach Acceleration Programmes targeting coaches involved in CSA-focused programmes.
- Organizing and facilitating forums and webinars for accredited coaches, providing a platform for ongoing learning.
- Supporting fellow Coach Developers in implementing CPD initiatives.
- Development Support for Framework and Member Coaches:
- Identifying and addressing the development needs of framework coaches.
- Implementing strategies and interventions as outlined in coaches’ Personal Development Plans (PDPs).
- Offering mentorship and guidance to framework and provincial coaches at CSA tournaments.
- Leading priority coaching interventions as directed by CSA.
- Overseeing additional coach development activities assigned by the Coach Education Department.
- Safeguarding Responsibilities:
- Leading CSA’s safeguarding requirements in collaboration with designated safeguarding officers.
- Tracking safeguarding cases and ensuring adherence to CSA’s safeguarding policy.
- Coordinating safeguarding measures at CSA-sanctioned cricket tournaments, promoting a safe environment for all participants.
- Personal Development and Organisational Engagement:
- Designing and implementing a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to support professional growth.
- Participating in bi-annual reviews with the Line Manager and contributing to initiatives for a better organizational culture.
- Engaging in HR training to enhance competency and effectiveness in the role.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Assisting with various projects and ensuring deadlines are met as instructed by the Line Manager.
- Ensuring that project delivery complements routine responsibilities and does not affect critical deadlines.
Essential Requirements and Qualifications
CSA has outlined several essential qualifications and experience criteria for prospective candidates:
- Level 3 Senior Coaching Certificate: A mandatory qualification, ensuring candidates have advanced coaching expertise.
- Safeguarding Awareness Certificate: Certification that demonstrates knowledge in safeguarding practices.
- Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of three years of experience as a Provincial Coach Developer.
- At least five years of coaching experience at the representative level.
- Relevant experience in safeguarding practices (one year preferred), facilitation, assessment, moderation, and in a Coach Developer role at the provincial level are advantageous.

- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and effective use of video conferencing platforms (Skype, Zoom, Teams).
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong conflict management, critical thinking, decision-making, and communication abilities, with a high level of professionalism.
- Self-Motivation and Work Ethic: A proactive approach, excellent time management, and the ability to manage stress and work under pressure.
Work Conditions and Reporting
The Coach Developers will report to the Coach Education Manager and will need to be adaptable to remote work. The roles require significant travel and may involve working extended hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet the demands of CSA members and affiliates.
