The University of South Africa (UNISA), through its College of Accounting Sciences, is inviting applications for the position of Regional Based Tutors for 2025. These independent contractor roles aim to facilitate learning through a hybrid model, combining face-to-face and online (via MS Teams) tutorials, offering an opportunity to shape future professionals in the field of Accountancy.
Purpose of the Position
The primary objective of the position is to deliver quality learning experiences to UNISA students, fostering understanding and excellence in various subjects within the College of Accounting Sciences. The hybrid teaching model includes both in-person and online facilitation, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for students.

The following UNISA Regional Centres have vacancies for tutor positions:
Regions and Centres:
- KwaZulu-Natal: Richards Bay, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Wild Coast, Newcastle
- Gauteng: Johannesburg, Vaal, Ekurhuleni, Pretoria, Florida
- Northern Region: Polokwane, Makhado, Nelspruit, Middelburg, Giyani
- Western Cape: Parow, George
- Eastern Cape: East London, Mthatha, Gqeberha
- Midlands: Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, Mahikeng, Rustenburg, Kimberley, Potchefstroom
General Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for consideration:
- Attend mandatory training offered by UNISA at the respective regional offices.
- Hold a Master’s degree in the field of Accountancy or related qualifications such as:
- MBA/MBL with an Honours degree/Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy.
- CA(SA) designation is also acceptable.
- Demonstrate advanced communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Show a commitment to meeting deadlines with a student-focused approach to teaching.
- Be friendly, patient, and sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of students.
- Be available during weekday evenings (16:00–20:00) and Saturdays (08:00–13:00).
- Have advanced proficiency in facilitating online classes via MS Teams.
- Teaching or tutoring experience, especially online, is advantageous.
- Possess your own computer and reliable internet connection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively facilitate tutoring in hybrid environments (face-to-face and MS Teams).
- Prepare comprehensively for tutorials using both in-person and online platforms.
- Deliver engaging learning experiences that meet UNISA standards.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to the teaching team (lecturers).

- CAS3701 – Capstone module in Accounting Sciences in Financial Accounting

Appointment Details
As an Independent Contractor, selected candidates:
- Will not be considered as UNISA employees.
- Will not be entitled to benefits such as medical aid, office space, equipment, or leave.
- May work up to 15 hours per module per semester or 30 hours per year module.
- Can only be appointed for a maximum of three modules based on university needs.
- Will earn R431.60 per hour.
Appointments are for the 2025 calendar year with assumption of duty in February 2025.
