The University of Cape Town (UCT) invites applications for Assistant Computer Lab Administrator positions within the Customer Services Division of the Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS) department. These positions are offered on a 10- to 11-month renewable contract, ending in November each year. Successful candidates will be part of a dynamic team responsible for managing and supporting student computing labs.
About the Customer Services Division
The Customer Services Division (CSD) is a key branch of ICTS, responsible for various services including the IT Helpdesk, classroom support, student computing lab management, and communication with the university community. This division plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless IT support for UCT students and staff.
Position Overview
Assistant Computer Lab Administrators will report directly to the Lab Administrator and contribute to the smooth operation of student computing labs. This role requires individuals who are highly customer-focused, with strong interpersonal and technical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting UCT undergraduate students with IT queries, troubleshooting, and resolving minor issues related to personal computers, printers, and software used in the labs.
- Ensuring compliance with lab rules and regulations.
- Providing frontline technical support and escalating unresolved issues where necessary.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Senior Certificate (IT-related qualifications are an added advantage).
- Technical Skills: Strong IT troubleshooting abilities and proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, email platforms, and web browsers.
- Personal Attributes:
- Strong analytical skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a team or independently under pressure.
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
Compensation
The monthly salary for this role is R18,149.
