Key Roles and Responsibilities
As an RAF Attorney working in the High Court, your responsibilities will include handling litigation matters, providing legal advice, and representing the Fund in third-party claims and related litigation issues. You will be expected to perform a wide range of tasks, including:
- Policy Review and Implementation:
- Contribute to developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
- Keep abreast of current and effective policy strategies, ensuring compliance with South African legal standards.
- Preparation and Research:
- Conduct legal research to prepare cases for trial, consulting with clients, witnesses, and departments for comprehensive information.
- Draft pleadings that present a clear case justification to ensure strong positions in court proceedings.
- Mediation and Settlement:
- Facilitate the mediation process in compliance with the rules of court.
- Settle non-litigious matters before they reach trial, providing early consultations, assessments, and recommendations.
- Legal Advice and Taxation:
- Provide legal guidance on contracts and legal issues affecting the RAF.
- Deliver a full range of tax services in line with South African laws and regulations.
- Stakeholder and People Management:
- Effectively manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor a high-performance team, ensuring alignment with the RAF’s strategic objectives.
- Court Representation:
- Represent the RAF at various levels of court, tribunals, mediation hearings, and inquiries.
- Manage legal cases from start to finish, ensuring all trial dates are met and providing expert witness instructions when necessary.
- Reporting and Legal Research:
- Prepare and submit reports to inform management decisions.
- Provide well-researched legal opinions on matters impacting the RAF’s operations and legal obligations.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for the RAF Attorney role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law or an equivalent qualification.
- Post-Graduate Qualification in Law (preferred).
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court or Advocate.
- Right of Appearance in the High Court.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of legal experience post-graduation or admission, with at least 2 years in Personal Injury Litigation.
