    The City of Johannesburg Infrastructure Internships are now open for applications. This initiative, focusing on infrastructure internships, provides invaluable work-based training opportunities for students, particularly those within the Johannesburg communities.     About the Infrastructure Internships Programme

    An internship with the City of Johannesburg is an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience in their field of study.     Key Learning Areas

    Interns will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of infrastructure development, including:

    • Project Management: Managing activities related to infrastructure construction according to the city’s policies.
    • Reporting: Preparing quarterly and monthly reports on transport infrastructure construction projects.
    • Financial Monitoring: Implementing financial controls and procedures to support financial planning.

    Minimum Requirements

    The Infrastructure Internships are open to all qualifying students residing in Johannesburg who have never participated in an internship program before. Specifically, the opportunity is available to youth within the community who meet the following criteria:

    • Minimum Qualifications: Grade 12 (NQF level 4) and a Degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
    • Additional Advantage: An Honours Degree in the relevant field.
    • Residency: Only residents of the City of Johannesburg are considered for the program.

    Competencies and Skills Development

    Interns will develop various competencies and skills critical for their professional growth:

    • ICT Literacy: Proficiency in MS Office Applications, especially Excel.
    • Communication Skills: Strong verbal, listening, and written communication abilities.
    • Problem-Solving: Analytical skills for problem analysis and resolution.
    • Organizational Skills: High level of confidentiality, ability to work independently, and time management.
    • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

    Interns will also be expected to uphold core competencies such as:

    • Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication and teamwork.
    • Professional Ethics: Adherence to Batho Pele principles and professionalism.
