Key Responsibilities
As the Director in Legal Advisory Services, you will be expected to:
- Provide Professional Legal Advice: Manage and ensure effective provision of professional legal advice, opinions, and litigation processes to support the department’s activities.
- Strengthen Legal Capacity: Ensure the department’s legal capacity is robust, providing effective legal advice and opinions across all levels.
- Manage Contracts and Agreements: Oversee detailed legal analysis of contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance and effective management.
- Compliance Management: Advise on and ensure departmental compliance with international and national legal requirements.
- Legal Resource Management: Manage the department’s legal resources, including legal information management and statutory support services.
- Policy Development and Implementation: Develop and oversee sound policies, ensuring they align with national and departmental strategic objectives.
- Risk Management: Monitor and implement legal risk management guidelines and ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.
- Litigation and Negotiation: Oversee all litigation matters, manage legal strategies, and ensure the department’s legal compliance.
- Human Resource Management: Manage resources effectively, including human resources, financial, and physical assets. Evaluate and monitor performance to achieve strategic goals.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications: Grade 12 and a Degree in Legal / Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification at NQF level 8.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience at a middle management/senior management level.
- Driver’s License: A valid code 8/10 driver’s license is required.
- Clean Record: No criminal record or pending cases.
- Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Understanding of relevant legislations, public service regulations, traffic, and safety legislations.
- In-depth knowledge of the department’s strategic objectives, political and parliamentary processes.
- Expertise in project management, policy analysis, information management, and intergovernmental relations.
- Skills in diversity management, public speaking, negotiation, diplomacy, litigation procedures, and stakeholder relations.
- Excellent planning, organizing, research, analytical, communication, and computer skills.
