Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing essential medical support to athletes and sports enthusiasts at TuksSport. This role will encompass duties such as:
- Medical Support and Emergency Care:
- Offering medical assistance during training sessions, competitions, and events on the TuksSport Campus.
- Providing emergency care and life-saving treatment to stabilize individuals before transferring them to a hospital for further care.
- Injury Prevention and Management:
- Assisting in injury prevention and management, thereby contributing to the optimal performance and rehabilitation of athletes.
- Supervision and Coordination:
- Supervising medical staff and coordinating service providers within the Emergency Care Unit.
- Offering support to the medical unit officer in areas like Medical Management Plans, Occupational Health & Safety, Training & Development, and general administration.
- Training and Development:
- Coordinating training programs for First Aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for TuksSport staff and students.
- Ensuring that all participants are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to medical emergencies effectively.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Diploma in Emergency Medical Care or National Diploma in General Nursing, along with at least two years of experience in basic emergency care.
- Higher Certificate ECA (Emergency Care Assistant) with a minimum of three years of experience in basic emergency care.
Additionally, candidates must demonstrate:
- Proficient knowledge of sports injuries and medical procedures.
- Comprehensive understanding of patient care, medical terminology, and medication.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Proof of Clinical Practitioners Guideline (CPG) certificate.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Care/ECP, Nursing (BN), or a related field.
- Four years of experience in basic emergency care.
- One year of experience in sport-specific emergency medical care or trauma management.
Competencies and Attributes
Candidates should possess:
- An ability to work efficiently under pressure and respond promptly to medical emergencies.
- Strong communication skills and a high level of professionalism.
- Leadership qualities for supervising and coordinating medical teams.
