Enrolled Nurse Job Purpose
The successful candidate will provide essential health services to students and staff by:
- Screening patients and sorting them for medical attention
- Assisting in medical emergencies
- Supervising TB (Tuberculosis) Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) for clients on campus
This role is crucial in ensuring the well-being of the CPUT community while maintaining high-quality healthcare service standards.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following job knowledge, skills, and experience criteria:
Educational Qualification
- A Grade 12 certificate
- A recognized qualification that allows for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse
- Proof of current registration with SANC
Experience
- Minimum 5 – 10 years of appropriate and recognized post-registration experience as an Enrolled Nurse
- Primary Health Care experience
- Experience in the TB DOTS system
- Experience in HIV testing
- Knowledge of statistical data collection
Additional Qualifications & Skills (Advantageous but not required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License
- Computer literacy
- Understanding of the Health Legislative & Policy Framework
Key Responsibilities
As an Enrolled Nurse at CPUT, your main responsibilities will include:
Patient Screening & Triage
- Sorting and screening patients
- Checking vital signs and assisting in medical triage
Administrative & Statistical Duties
- Assisting with patient appointments at the front desk
- Collating and managing monthly statistical data
Emergency Assistance
- Assisting Professional Nurses and Medical Doctors during emergencies
- Coordinating emergency services and assisting with patient referrals
TB & HIV Management
- Supervising the TB DOTS system on campus
- Assisting in HIV testing
Stock & Equipment Control
- Managing medical stock levels
- Ensuring proper filing and record-keeping
