About Addo Elephant National Park
Addo Elephant National Park, located in the Eastern Cape, is one of South Africa’s most prominent conservation areas It is home to more than 600 elephants, along with a variety of other wildlife including lions, buffalo, leopards, and the rare black rhino. Addo offers a diverse range of landscapes, from dense thickets and open plains to coastal dunes, making it a unique destination for nature lovers and conservationists alike. The park is dedicated to preserving South Africa’s natural heritage and offers a range of activities, from game drives and horse trails to hiking and marine eco-tours.
Requirements
To be considered for this Fusion Centre/Control Room Operator position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 certificate/NQF level 4.
- Qualification in conservation studies (advantageous).
- Field ranger training, conservation training, or para-military training certificate (advantageous).
- Computer Literacy certificate; advanced computer skills certificate (advantageous).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a conservation law enforcement official or in para-military operations.
- Skills:
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent administrative and record-keeping skills (certification advantageous).
- High-level mental alertness and physical health.
- Willingness to be based inside the park.
- No criminal record.
Key Responsibilities
As a Fusion Centre/Control Room Operator, your primary duties will include:
- Security Monitoring:
- Oversee organisation security systems including access control and CCTV.
- Respond to security incidents and issues reported by personnel.
- Incident Coordination:
- Relay incident notifications to appropriate leadership.
- Coordinate responses with conservation law enforcement.
- Dispatch officers to investigate alarms and incidents.
- Notify and coordinate with emergency services when needed.
- System Performance:
- Monitor and report on the performance of security system elements.
- Communication:
- Coordinate communication between relevant stakeholders.
- Support command and control operations during incidents.
- Track and monitor the location and activities of rangers and field staff.
- Law Enforcement Support:
- Assist with control of visitors and staff.
- Maintain law, order, and discipline within the park.
- Ensure high standards of administration and cleanliness in the operations room.
