    Available Gauteng Health Department Vacancies

    1. Position: Pharmacy Supervisor

    • Grade: 1
    • Reference Number: HEIDH/PHARM/2024/10
    • Directorate: Pharmacy
    • Department: Gauteng Health Department
    • Salary: R949,146 per annum
    • Centre: Heidelberg Hospital

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • Grade 12 or equivalent senior certificate.
      • Bachelor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent, accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
      • Current registration with SAPC as a practicing Pharmacist (2024).
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 4 years post-registration experience as a Pharmacist with SAPC.
      • Experience in Rx solution stock management, dispensing, and reporting modules.
      • Supervisory experience in pharmacy or related entities and bulk store management is advantageous.
    • Knowledge and Skills:
      • Understanding of OHSC and Ideal Hospital Framework.
      • Knowledge of financial and human resource management.
      • Familiarity with relevant Acts and Regulations, including Essential Drug Program, NHI, National Drug Policy, Pharmacovigilance, and CCMDD program.
      • Knowledge of Public Service Acts, Policies, and Procedures related to stock control.
      • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
      • Ability to work under pressure, coordinate productivity, and possess strong computer literacy and administrative skills.

    Duties:

    • Pharmaceutical Services Management:
      • Provide comprehensive and cost-effective pharmaceutical services aligned with National, Provincial, and District strategies.
      • Oversee pharmaceutical services across all hospital departments, including clinics.
      • Ensure timely compilation and submission of required statistics and reports.
    • Stock and Equipment Management:
      • Efficiently manage procurement, storage, distribution, control, and security of pharmaceutical stock and equipment.
      • Conduct regular stock takes and financial reporting in compliance with legislation.
    • Quality and Compliance:
      • Promote rational medicine use and enhance medication availability in the hospital.
      • Develop, implement, and monitor adherence to standard operating procedures and policies.
      • Conduct service assessments and implement quality improvement programs in the pharmacy.
    • Communication and Coordination:
      • Engage with stakeholders to ensure high-quality patient service and meet audit requirements.
      • Perform standby and after-hours services, including weekend duties when necessary.
    • Program Coordination and Leadership:
      • Support essential Medicines programs, including Pharmacy and Therapeutically Committee, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Medicine Utilization Reviews.
      • Provide leadership and support to pharmacy staff, supervising workflow and managing discipline.
      • Deputize for the Pharmacy Manager as needed and assist with pharmacy administration.
    • Training and Development:
      • Register as a tutor for pharmacist assistants and interns.
      • Identify training needs and facilitate appropriate training and development opportunities.
      • Monitor and evaluate employee performance in line with the PMDS Policy (EPMDS).
    • Additional Duties:
      • Perform any other lawful tasks assigned by the Pharmacy Manager related to the post.

    2. Position: Clinical Nurse Practitioner

    • Reference Number: HEIDH/PHC/2024/04 (2 Posts)
    • Department: Gauteng Health Department
    • Salary: R451,533 per annum (plus benefits)
    • Centre: Heidelberg Hospital

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing or equivalent) allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
      • Post-basic qualification in Clinical Nursing Science: Health Assessment, Treatment, and Care (minimum 1-year diploma), accredited by SANC (R48).
      • Current registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
    • Experience:
      • Grade 1: Minimum of 4 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration.
      • Grade 2: Minimum of 14 years of relevant nursing experience, including at least 10 years after obtaining the post-basic qualification.
    • Additional Skills and Competencies:
      • NIMART training or experience is advantageous.
      • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
      • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness.
      • Willingness to work overtime and across different units as needed.

    Duties:

    • Program Coordination and Monitoring:
      • Oversee and coordinate the effective implementation of HAST (HIV and AIDS, STI, and TB) programs and adherence within the hospital and outpatient areas. This includes HTS (HIV Testing Services), UTT (Universal Test and Treat), TB-FAST strategy, CCMT (Comprehensive Care Management and Treatment), NAS (National Adherence Strategy), CCMDD (Central Chronic Medicines Dispensing and Distribution), NIMART (Nurse Initiated Management of Antiretroviral Therapy), PMTCT (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission), and Clinical Forensic Medical Services.
      • Ensure accurate data capturing, analysis, and validation using the Tier.net system.
    • Staff Development and Mentorship:
      • Mentor and coach multidisciplinary team (MDT) members on HAST program guidelines and policies to ensure high-quality patient care.
      • Provide staff development on updates and changes in HAST programs.
    • Performance Monitoring:
      • Monitor and evaluate the performance of HAST programs and coordinate FACPMR/DATA meetings.
      • Attend relevant meetings, implement new program changes, and track progress.
    • Resource Management:
      • Ensure proper utilization and management of human, financial, and physical resources.
      • Maintain constructive working relationships with nursing staff and other stakeholders, including inter-professional, inter-sectorial, and multidisciplinary teams.
      • Manage workplace discipline and conflict.
    • Quality Care and Standards:
      • Ensure the delivery of optimal quality care in line with national core standards and the National Strategic Plan for Nurse Education, Training, and Practice.

    3. Position: Professional Nurse Grade 1 – Specialty Theatre

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • Basic R425 qualification (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent, allowing current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
      • Post-basic qualification in Theatre Specialty, accredited by SANC, with a duration of at least one year.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 4 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration with SANC in general nursing.

    Duties:

    • Clinical and Administrative Responsibilities:
      • Perform both clinical and administrative duties as required by SANC standards.
      • Ensure the delivery of effective and high-quality patient care in a safe, therapeutic environment, adhering to the Nursing Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant regulations.
    • Patient Care and Communication:
      • Communicate effectively with patients, supervisors, health professionals, and junior colleagues, including the preparation of complex reports.
      • Advocate for patients, ensuring they receive proper treatment and care while adhering to Batho Pele principles.
    • Quality Assurance and Improvement:
      • Develop and implement quality assurance programs, policies, operational plans, standard operating procedures, and guidelines for the theatre unit.
      • Work to improve the quality of care by reducing patient complaints and waiting times.
    • Nursing Standards and Practices:
      • Promote and uphold the quality of nursing care as defined by professional scope of practice, institutional standards, and other regulatory bodies.
    • Administrative Skills:
      • Demonstrate basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
      • Stay informed about relevant legislation and policies from the Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness.
    • Flexibility and Coverage:
      • Be prepared to relieve in other wards when needed.
      • Willingness to work both day and night shifts as required.

    4. Position: Professional Nurse Grade 1 – Specialty

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • Basic R425 qualification (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent, enabling registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
      • Post-basic qualification in Child Nursing, accredited by SANC according to Government Notice No R212, with a duration of at least one year.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 4 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration with SANC in general nursing.
    • Skills and Competencies:
      • Strong understanding of nursing legislation and legal/ethical nursing practices.
      • Ability to perform clinical nursing practice in alignment with scope of practice and nursing standards.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct, Labour-related policies, and administrative duties.
      • Experience in shift leading, relieving the Operational Manager, and understanding Ideal Hospital Realization and OHSC Framework.
      • Competence in leadership, ward management, planning, organization, coordination, and communication.
      • Ability to make independent decisions and display empathy for patients.
      • Familiarity with administrative policies and guidelines in midwifery care, as well as a thorough understanding of Nursing Legislation and the National Health Act.

    Duties:

    • Patient Care:
      • Provide high-quality, comprehensive nursing care for children.
      • Ensure adherence to Infection Prevention and Control principles.
      • Deliver nursing care within the legal framework and scope of practice.
    • Professionalism and Supervision:
      • Exhibit professionalism and adherence to nursing ethics.
      • Supervise and ensure effective and efficient patient care within the paediatrics department.
    • Program Implementation:
      • Implement and oversee priority programs such as EMTCT (Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission), MBFI (Mother-Baby Friendly Initiative), etc.
    • Administrative and Leadership Roles:
      • Handle administrative duties, including shift leading and supporting the Operational Manager.

    5.Position: Engineering Technician

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • Degree or national diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Clinical Engineering Technology).
      • Current registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technician.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a clinical engineering environment.
    • Skills and Knowledge:
      • Familiarity with and adherence to relevant legislation.
      • Proficiency in using various hand tools, test equipment, and resources in a clinical engineering setting.
      • Understanding of public hospital operational systems.
      • Valid driver’s license is advantageous.
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
      • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

    Duties:

    • Clinical Service Provision:
      • Deliver clinical engineering services in line with institutional, provincial, and national policies and standards.
    • Training and Supervision:
      • Supervise and train clinical engineering students and all end-users of medical technology.
      • Oversee on-site repairs, maintenance, and safety checks.
    • Medical Technology Management:
      • Monitor and provide guidance on all aspects related to medical technology and its lifecycle.
      • Ensure quality control by calibrating medical equipment and adhering to required safety protocols and standards.
    • Technical Support and Documentation:
      • Offer technical support to medical professionals.
      • Manage service level agreements with external service providers.
      • Maintain accurate records and documentation of medical technology.
      • Provide monthly reports on health technology status and performance.

    6. Position: Professional Nurse CTOP (Choice of Termination of Pregnancy) Practitioner

    • Salary: R307,473 per annum
    • Centre: Heidelberg Hospital

    Requirements:

    • Grade 1:
      • Basic nursing qualification accredited by the SANC in terms of Government Notice 425 (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent, allowing registration as a Professional Nurse.
      • Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse following post-community service.
      • Mandatory CTOP (Choice of Termination of Pregnancy) course certificate.
      • Current (2024) SANC license to practice.
      • Computer literacy.
    • Grade 2:
      • Basic nursing qualification accredited by the SANC in terms of Government Notice 425 (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent, allowing registration as a Professional Nurse.
      • Minimum of 10 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration with SANC in general nursing.
      • Mandatory CTOP course certificate.
      • Current (2024) SANC license to practice.
      • Computer literacy.
    • Grade 3:
      • Basic nursing qualification accredited by the SANC in terms of Government Notice 425 (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent, allowing registration as a Professional Nurse.
      • Minimum of 20 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration with SANC in general nursing.
      • Mandatory CTOP course certificate.
      • Current (2024) SANC license to practice.
      • Computer literacy.

    Duties:

    • CTOP Service Provision:
      • Deliver safe and high-quality CTOP services by adhering to the Perinatal practice guidelines specific to termination of pregnancy.
      • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the legal framework and regulations related to CTOP.
