Main Purpose of the Job
The primary role of the General Assistant is to maintain a clean and safe working environment and assist with office support and refreshments. Cleanliness is critical in any working environment, especially in labs and research centres like the CBTBR. You will be responsible for various tasks to ensure that the office and laboratory areas are kept tidy, well-stocked, and ready for use. Key Responsibilities of the General Assistant
Your daily tasks as the General Assistant will include:
- Vacuuming and Cleaning: Vacuuming assigned offices, corridors, and common areas to keep them clean and presentable.
- Waste Management: Emptying all office and lab waste bins, replacing liners, and ensuring proper waste disposal.
- Office and Lab Maintenance: Wiping and dusting office furniture and lab equipment, paying special attention to delicate lab instruments.
- Inventory Monitoring: Keeping an eye on stock levels of groceries, consumables, and supplies, and reporting anything that needs to be ordered.
- Basic Sterilisation Procedures: Assisting with sterilisation tasks to maintain a hygienic environment in labs and office areas.
- Kitchen Cleaning: Washing crockery and cutlery, wiping kitchen surfaces, and ensuring the kitchen area is always clean and functional.
- Meeting/Event Setup: Preparing venues for meetings or events, including setting up crockery and refreshments and ensuring the areas are tidy afterwards.
- Safety and Security: Opening/locking doors, windows, and activating/deactivating alarms before and after meetings or events.
- Miscellaneous Duties: Performing any other duties as required, such as cleaning mirrors, doors, door handles, sinks, and replacing liquid soap in dispensers.
Requirements for the Role
Minimum Education and Training
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a Grade 12 certificate. While previous experience in a similar role is not mandatory, having it would be advantageous. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of the following:
- Knowledge of how to use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and efficiently.
- The ability to follow instructions, work within schedules, and complete tasks on time.
