Requirements for Medical Registrar Role:
Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner, HPCSA registration as an independent medical practitioner. Current HPCSA for April 2023/March 2024. Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident. Advantages: Work experience in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. CMSA part 1a and 1b examinations. Axillary courses relevant to the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (example ACLS).
Duties:
- Interviewing, investigating, diagnosing, and overseeing the treatment of patients.
- Participating in all activities related to teaching and research in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology discipline.
- Engaging in departmental audit activities and preparing reports.
- Providing liaison and communication services to patients and the community.
- Supervising junior doctors, including undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors.
- Attending relevant administrative meetings, such as mortality meetings and near miss meetings, and completing MEDICO Legal Documents promptly (e.g., Death certificates).
- Improving the quality of care through the provision of appropriate clinical care.
- Reducing medical litigation by maintaining high clinical standards.
- Implementing and monitoring adherence to National Core Standards (Norms and Standards).
- Ensuring that departmental administration and record-keeping are carried out efficiently.
- Being willing to render commuted overtime for after-hour duties (night, weekend, and public holiday) to provide uninterrupted patient care.
- Being responsible for clinical services, assessments, and patient treatment.
- Participating in rotations through related departments at various hospitals, including those served by specific outreach programs.
- Joint appointment between the Gauteng Provincial Government, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, and the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS).
