Purpose of the Position
The primary role of the Paralegal is to manage litigation and legal administration within the organization. This includes drafting and reviewing legal agreements, as well as providing support in compliance and litigation processes. The position also requires efficient management of legal documentation and communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of legal tasks, including:
- Drafting and Reviewing Legal Documents:
- Draft, review, and revise loan agreements and other legal documents such as contracts, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
- Ensure all legal documents comply with the relevant laws and regulations while reflecting the organization’s best interests.
- Litigation Management:
- Assist in managing litigation processes, including coordinating with external legal counsel.
- Prepare and organize documents for litigation, such as pleadings, motions, and discovery responses.
- Maintain records of ongoing litigation matters, tracking deadlines and important court dates.
- Legal Research:
- Conduct legal research to support the drafting, vetting, and revision of legal documents.
- Stay informed about legal developments and changes in laws or regulations that could affect GEP’s operations.
- Compliance:
- Assist in monitoring and reporting compliance issues, ensuring that the organization’s practices align with applicable laws and regulations.
- Administrative Support:
- Provide essential administrative support, including organizing legal documents, scheduling meetings, and preparing reports.
- Help with the preparation of board and committee meetings by drafting agendas and taking minutes.
- Communication:
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all parties have a clear understanding of legal documents and procedures.
- Record Management:
- Organize and maintain legal records and documentation in a manner that is both efficient and compliant with organizational policies and legal standards.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Paralegal position at GEP, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications: A Diploma in Paralegal Studies or Legal Studies is required. An LLB degree would be advantageous.
- Experience: Prior experience in a similar role is essential, especially in drafting legal documents such as loan agreements and managing litigation processes.
- Work Environment Experience: Experience in a legal or financial setting is highly beneficial.
