Purpose of the Job
The Roadmaker position plays a pivotal role in the construction and rehabilitation of roads. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, controlling, and executing specialized tasks related to road construction, repair, trench reinstatements, and access hardening. This includes everything from setting up and managing the work in progress to ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards. The Roadmaker will contribute to creating and maintaining durable, high-quality roads for the local community.
Key Responsibilities
As a Roadmaker, the successful candidate will be involved in:
- Road Construction and Rehabilitation: Managing tasks associated with constructing new roads, repairing existing ones, and conducting trench reinstatements. The role includes supervising complete paving and milling operations, ensuring each step aligns with project requirements.
- Operations Management: Overseeing large-scale road works and planning necessary activities. This involves coordinating plant, machinery, and material usage for optimal project outcomes.
- Traffic Management: Setting up traffic deviations on work sites to ensure smooth and safe flow in compliance with the Department of Transport Road Traffic Act.
- Safety Compliance: Ensuring all operations adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, protecting team members and the public.
- Adherence to Standards: Working from detailed plans and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with specified quality standards.

- Trade Qualification: A Trade Tested Artisan certification as a Bricklayer is essential.
- Driver’s License: A valid EC1 driver’s license, along with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), is required for this position.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant experience is essential, though candidates with three years of experience will be preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The Roadmaker position offers an attractive annual salary range between R276,454.32 and R358,839.60. Additionally, the successful candidate will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
