Key Responsibilities
As a Project Management Unit Technician, you will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing municipal infrastructure projects funded by the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) and other related programs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Project Management: Integrate, coordinate, and manage projects, ensuring they align with the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) and Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) frameworks.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all projects comply with applicable legislation, policies, and conditions, and prepare regular compliance reports.
- Financial Administration: Oversee project budgets, manage cash flows, verify payment certificates, and prepare monthly payment documentation.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain regular communication with provincial and senior MIG managers, as well as other relevant departments, through formal evaluations and progress meetings.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and evaluate proposed projects, ensuring they align with the municipal Integrated Development Plans (IPDs) and regional/provincial growth strategies.
- Report Compilation: Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual, and ad hoc reports to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and other stakeholders.
- Team Management: Manage the PMU team, ensuring the successful delivery of their respective outputs.
- Audit and Compliance: Audit and administer monthly claims and expenditures, ensuring compliance with all legal conditions and government requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates interested in this Project Management Unit Technician position should meet the following qualifications:
- Educational Background: A National Diploma in Civil Engineering is required. Professional registration with the Council of Engineering of South Africa is essential.
- Experience: Preferably, a minimum of three years of experience in a local government technical department, with demonstrated project management skills.
- Additional Certifications: A Certificate in Project Management and professional registration with the Council of South Africa will be considered an added advantage.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, accuracy in working with data, excellent interpersonal skills, and effective communication abilities.

- Managing the integration and coordination of municipal projects.
