Purpose of the Security Officer Role
The purpose of this position is to ensure the implementation of the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) document as required by Cabinet for all public entities. The successful candidate will also oversee the physical security of MHSC assets and ensure a safe and secure working environment for all employees and stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Grade A Security Qualification
- National Certificate in Security Management
- Professional Registration:
- Registered with the Security Officers Board (Essential)
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in office security
Key Responsibilities
As a Security Officer at the MHSC, you will perform the following duties:
- Premises Patrol:
- Monitor and patrol the premises to detect and prevent signs of intrusion.
- Ensure all doors, windows, and gates are secure.
- Alarm Management:
- Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances promptly.
- Access Control:
- Authorize and monitor the entrance and exit of employees, visitors, and others.
- Guard against theft and ensure premises remain secure.
- Incident Reporting:
- Document activities, irregularities, and unusual occurrences, such as equipment damage, theft, or unauthorized presence.
- Emergency Response:
- Notify relevant authorities (police or fire department) in cases of emergencies, including fires or intrusions.
- Rule Enforcement:
- Maintain order by warning individuals of infractions and apprehending violators if necessary.
- Security Equipment Operation:
- Operate devices to screen individuals and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
- Inspect and maintain security systems to detect signs of tampering or malfunctions.
- Investigation Assistance:
- Support investigations into security-related incidents.
- Threat Communication:
- Notify management about any impending safety or security threats at the MHSC.
