Re-enlistment Ranks and Salary Information
Successful candidates will be appointed to the ranks they previously held. The available ranks for re-enlistment are:
- Constable: R226,188 per annum
- Sergeant: R283,797 per annum
- Warrant Officer: R351,570 per annum
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for re-enlistment, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Previous SAPS Experience: You must have been appointed as a member of the SAPS under the Police Service Act 68 of 1995 in the rank of Constable, Sergeant, or Warrant Officer.
- Training Completion: You should have successfully completed basic police training and other relevant functional police training courses.
- Good Record: A solid disciplinary and attendance record during your previous SAPS employment is essential.
- Educational Qualifications: You must have at least a Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) or higher qualification.
- Driver’s License: A valid light motor vehicle license (Code B) is required.
- South African Citizenship: Proof of South African citizenship is mandatory.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants should be proficient in at least two of the official languages, one of which must be English.
- Medical and Psychological Assessment: You must be willing to undergo a medical examination and psychological assessment as determined by the National Commissioner.
- No Visible Tattoos: Tattoos that are visible and irreconcilable with the values and objectives of SAPS are not permitted.
- No Criminal Record: You should have no previous criminal convictions or pending disciplinary or criminal cases. Background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted.
- Firearm Fitness: Applicants must not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
- Willingness to Relocate: You should be prepared to be deployed anywhere in the country, based on SAPS’s needs, which might include relocation at your own expense.
- No Conflict of Interest: You should not be involved in any business or activity that conflicts with SAPS’s integrity.
- Training: Candidates without formal detective training will undergo a three-month training program immediately after appointment.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must not be older than 55 years of age as of the closing date of the advertisement (October 21, 2024).
Exclusions
Applications will NOT be considered from former members who:
- Have reached retirement age (early or compulsory).
- Were dishonorably discharged or dismissed.
- Left the Service pending disciplinary inquiries or criminal proceedings.
- Resigned due to ill health, severance packages, or retirement resulting from medical boarding.
Application Procedure
Only the official SAPS application form will be accepted. You can obtain the form from the SAPS website or at any SAPS Recruitment Office. The Z83 form will not be accepted.

- Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Uncertified copies of your ID, Senior Certificate, and other educational qualifications.
- Service certificates from previous employers, stating your occupation.
- Proof of relevant experience in the field of the post.
- Motor vehicle driver’s license.
Note: Shortlisted candidates must produce original documents during the selection process. SAPS will verify qualifications and driver’s licenses with the relevant institutions.
Selection Process
The selection process includes:
- Reference checking for all shortlisted applicants.
- Verification of residential addresses.
- Fingerprint screening.
- Personal interviews and practical assessments for shortlisted candidates.
- Vetting in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007, and the Children’s Act, 2005.
Candidates will be disqualified if their particulars appear in the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register. Disclosure of any interim or final protection orders under the Domestic Violence Act, 1998, or Protection from Harassment Act, 2011, is mandatory and may lead to disqualification.
