Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager will oversee a range of capital and developmental projects, ensuring they are completed within scope, on time, and within budget. Below are the main responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Implementation: Work alongside Deputy Heads to plan, execute, and monitor capital and developmental projects within the unit.
- Financial Management: Manage and control financial elements for all projects, ensuring adherence to financial policies, asset management practices, and budget control.
- Team Development and Management: Oversee staff performance, provide guidance, and participate in hiring processes for new team members.
- Representation: Act on behalf of the Unit Head or Senior Manager of Integration and Communication at meetings and community events related to capital projects.
- Reporting and Communication: Maintain consistent communication with project stakeholders to provide updates, address challenges, and ensure community-focused project delivery.
This role demands a high degree of attention to detail, accountability, and ethical conduct. Problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills will be critical to successfully meet project objectives and enhance service delivery for Durban’s Parks, Recreation, and Culture Unit.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Education: Diploma (NQF Level 6) in the Built Environment, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional Registration: Must be registered with a relevant statutory body such as ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa), SACQSP (South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession), or SACAP (South African Council for the Architectural Profession).
- License: Valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Experience: A minimum of four years of experience in Construction Project Management.
Preferred Requirements:
- Degree: NQF Level 7 degree in the Built Environment, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
- Experience: Five years of experience in Construction Project Management.
