The Role of the Centralised Litigation Unit (CLU)
The Centralised Litigation Unit (CLU) is central to SARS’ litigation strategy. Reporting to the SARS Chief Litigation Officer, the CLU is tasked with defending and instituting litigation under the Tax Administration Act (TAA). This includes managing legal actions, analyzing notices in terms of section 11(4) of the TAA, and facilitating resolutions between SARS and taxpayers before costly litigation arises.
