Animal Health Technician Job Overview:
- Salary: R376,413 per annum (Level 08)

Requirements:
- Grade 12 plus an appropriate NQF level 6 qualification in Animal Health or equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
- Paid-up registration with the South African Veterinary Council as an Animal Health Technician.
- Valid driver’s licence (exceptions for people with disabilities).
Knowledge, Competencies, and Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Effective time management.
- Thorough knowledge of Animal Diseases Act, 1984 (Act 35 of 1984).
- Knowledge of Animal Identification Act, 2002 (Act 6 of 2002).
- Familiarity with Meat Safety Act, 2000 (Act 40 of 2000).
- Specific expertise in disease control programmes and eradication schemes.
- Understanding of the PFMA (Public Finance Management Act).
- Proficiency in computer operations.
- Strong report writing skills.
Duties:
- Apply relevant acts, legislation, regulations, protocols, and control measures related to animal health at ward, district, provincial, and national levels.
- Conduct inspections, participate in eradication schemes, disease control campaigns, and surveys.
- Provide training, mentorship, and extension services to farmers and engage in clinical work.
- Manage administrative responsibilities related to line function issues within designated area.
- Support the State Veterinarian and Control Animal Health in disease control, reproduction, production advancement, sample collection, and law enforcement.
