The Auditor Role and Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The role requires performing standard audits across multiple tax types, utilizing a risk profile basis to identify potential tax compliance issues. The Auditor Level 1 is expected to work autonomously while ensuring all activities comply with the relevant legislative requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Conduct limited scope audits to ensure compliance with the relevant tax acts.
- Identify additional risks and provide feedback to the relevant business unit.
- Keep abreast of relevant acts, legislation, and regulations affecting audit work.
- Quality Assurance and Efficiency:
- Plan and schedule activities to continuously enhance quality and service delivery.
- Apply practical knowledge to interpret trends and identify risks.
- Client and Team Engagement:
- Foster productive working relationships with peers and team members.
- Provide specialist support to meet or exceed customer service expectations.
- Governance and Cost-Effectiveness:
- Adhere to governance and compliance procedures.
- Implement cost-effective methods to reduce financial costs while maintaining quality.

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- Qualification Options:
- National Diploma / Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in Forensic Investigations or a related field, with 2–3 years of experience in Tax Audit/Forensic Financial Investigations, including at least one year at knowledge worker level.
- OR a Senior Certificate (NQF 4) with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Added Advantage:
- A related Degree or Advanced Diploma will provide an edge.
Functional Requirements:
- Sound knowledge of legislation, policies, and SOPs governing tax audits.
- Ability to communicate and escalate issues effectively.
