Key Responsibilities
This role is essential to ensuring efficient SAPS operations. As a driver, you will be responsible for managing SAPS’s operational vehicle fleet and transporting vehicles, equipment, and personnel across various locations in South Africa. Core duties include:
- Vehicle Fleet Administration: Ensure proper maintenance, documentation, and registration of operational and armoured vehicle fleets.
- Transport Management: Coordinate the movement of personnel, equipment, and vehicles on a national level, which may involve packing, loading, and unloading.
- Inspection and Compliance: Conduct regular checks to report damages, losses, or needed repairs for the fleet. Adhere to SAPS policies, including National Instructions 4 (State Vehicles) and 2 (Armoured Vehicles).
- Performance Reporting: Assist in compiling performance reports for fleet management, aiding in the development of policies related to vehicle mobilisation.
- Security Standards Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) throughout all driving and transport operations.

Requirements and Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Generic Requirements
- Competency: Demonstrate the necessary skills for the job’s core functions.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in at least two of South Africa’s official languages, one of which must be English.
- Education: A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF level 4.
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Driver’s License: Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Criminal Record: No prior criminal or departmental convictions and no pending criminal or departmental cases.
- Physical Requirements: No visible tattoos that would be exposed when wearing a SAPS uniform.
Additional Post Requirements
- Driving Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a driver.
- Licenses: Code EB, C1, C, EC1, and EC driver’s licenses, along with a valid Public Drivers Permit (PDP).
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Work Environment Adaptability: Ability to work under pressure and extend working hours when required.
