Key Responsibilities
The DCES will play a pivotal role in shaping the Life Skills and Life Orientation curriculum for Grades 1-7. Responsibilities include:
- Leadership & Coordination
- Provide provincial leadership for the coordination, development, and implementation of Life Skills/Life Orientation within Primary Curriculum Management.
- Coordinate Subject Committees and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure consistent and effective teaching standards.
- Curriculum Development
- Oversee the development of learner assessment strategies in Life Skills/Life Orientation.
- Develop and administer curriculum projects, collaborating with external agencies.
- Teacher Support & Training
- Ensure effective training, on-site support visits, and capacity-building initiatives for educators and subject advisors.
- Resource Management
- Lead the development and utilization of additional learning and teaching support materials (LTSM).
- Manage the project budget and operational plans related to Life Skills/Life Orientation.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Develop and maintain monitoring systems to evaluate curriculum implementation.
- Prepare detailed reports for informed decision-making and policy adjustments.
Competencies and Skills Required
Candidates must exhibit strong leadership qualities and a deep understanding of educational frameworks. Essential skills and attributes include:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Outlook.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), CAPS, and NCS in the relevant phase.
- Expertise in Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) and Assessment methodologies.
- Experience in curriculum material development, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
Eligibility and Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- A recognized RVQ 13/14 qualification, including a professional teaching qualification with a specialization in Life Skills/Life Orientation.
- Professional Registration:
- Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) as a professional educator.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in the educational field.
- Managerial experience in Life Skills/Life Orientation will be an added advantage.
