    Gauteng Department of Health Vacancies

    1. Medical Specialist (Gastrointestinal Colorectal Unit)

    • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in nursing post-registration with SANC, including at least 3 years in an operational management role.
    • Management Training: Minimum of 1 year in Nursing Management accredited by SANC.
    • Skills: Proven managerial skills, computer literacy, knowledge of financial management, and strong verbal and written communication.
    • Registration: Current SANC registration proof required.
    • Additional: Nursing education is an advantage; must be willing to work under pressure and beyond normal duties.

    Duties:

    • Service Delivery: Monitor and evaluate nursing service delivery during day and night shifts.

    • Quality Improvement: Evaluate National Core Standards, develop and implement quality improvement plans.

    • Peer Review: Participate in or lead peer review assessments and ensure compliance with quality standards.
    • Quality Indicators: Monitor and report on Quality Assurance indicators to improve service delivery.
    • Best Practices: Identify and implement best practices to advance Quality Assurance standards.
    • Training & Development: Provide training on quality issues, conduct clinical and nursing audits, and develop quality improvement plans.

    • Nursing Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Nursing accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse, plus a 1-year post-basic Diploma in Trauma Nursing Science accredited with SANC.
    • Experience: Minimum of 9 years in nursing post-registration with SANC, including 5 years in Trauma & Emergency Nursing after the post-basic qualification.
    • Current Registration: Proof of SANC registration required.
    • Additional Qualifications: Diploma in Nursing Administration/Management is advantageous.
    • Skills: Computer literacy, Basic Life Support certification, knowledge of specialized nursing care, and relevant legal frameworks (Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.).
    • Attributes: Leadership, organizational skills, decision-making, problem-solving, financial and budgetary knowledge, and conflict management.

    Duties:

    • Care Coordination: Ensure optimal, holistic specialized nursing care within professional and legal frameworks.
    • Resource Management: Oversee the effective supervision and utilization of human, financial, and service resources.
    • Training & Support: Coordinate training and research, and support nursing services.
    • Professional Standards: Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and adherence to Batho Pele Principles and specialized patient-centered care.
    • Clinical Practice: Ensure nursing practice aligns with scope and standards.
    • Hospital Maintenance: Implement and maintain Ideal Hospital practices.
    • Computer Literacy: Use basic computer skills to support service delivery.
    • Communication: Effective communication with patients, supervisors, and other health professionals; perform complex report writing and data management.

    Requirements:

    • Basic Education: Matric Certificate.
    • Nursing Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Nursing accredited with SANC, allowing registration as a professional nurse in General, Psychiatry & Midwifery.
    • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in nursing post-registration with SANC, including at least 2 years in a quality assurance unit within the public sector.
    • Skills: Knowledge of customer care programs, legislative frameworks, and quality assurance initiatives. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and possess a driver’s license.
    • Competencies: Ability to analyze complex information, prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    Duties:

    • Quality Assurance: Ensure quality within the institution and lead quality improvement activities.
    • Strategy Development: Develop strategies, plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality improvements.
    • Leadership: Provide strategic leadership for the Quality Directorate, manage complaints and patient safety incidents.
