Credit Control/Debt Collector Position Overview
As a member of the finance department, the Credit Control/Debt Collector will be responsible for a range of duties aimed at managing municipal debts. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the effective management and recovery of outstanding debts, a crucial aspect of the municipality’s financial operations.
Requirements:
- National Diploma in Financial Management/Accounting
- Two years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of the Municipal Financial Management System
- Excellent computer skills, especially MS Excel
- Effective communication skills at all levels
- Ability to work under pressure
- Valid driver’s license (an advantage)
Knowledge
The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge in the following areas:
- Credit Control and Debt Collection: Thorough understanding of principles, strategies, and best practices.
- Municipal Financial Management System: Familiarity with its application and functionalities within the municipal framework.
Competencies
The successful candidate must meet the competencies outlined in Annexure A of the Local Government Municipal Staff Regulations of 20 September 2021. These competencies include but are not limited to:
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data and develop effective debt recovery strategies.
- Negotiation Skills: Proficient in negotiating payment terms and resolving debtor issues.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for identifying discrepancies and system gaps.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively recommend solutions for identified issues.
- Communication: Strong ability to handle customer queries and complaints efficiently.
Key Performance Areas
The Credit Control/Debt Collector will be responsible for:
- Tracking Outstanding Debts: Monitoring and updating the status of debts owed to the municipality.
- Planning Recovery Strategies: Developing and implementing strategies to recover owed money.
- Locating and Contacting Debtors: Engaging with debtors to negotiate payment deadlines and arrangements.
- Handling Customer Queries: Addressing and resolving customer complaints and queries.
- Identifying System Gaps: Recognizing inefficiencies within the financial management system and recommending improvements.
- Compliance: Ensuring all actions comply with National Treasury Directives and other regulatory requirements.
