Requirements

- Experience:
- Grade 1: 0-5 years’ experience as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
- Grade 2: 5-10 years’ experience as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
- Grade 3: 10 years and above experience as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Key Responsibilities
As a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant at the Gauteng Department of Health, you will be responsible for:
- Stock Control: Assisting with the control of stock, including ordering, receiving, and distributing medicines in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant legislation.
- Compounding and Preparation: Assisting in the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and SOPs.
- Manufacturing: Assisting in the manufacturing of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances as per approved procedures.
- Re-Packaging and Distribution: Assisting with the re-packaging of medicines and the distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 7 medicines or scheduled substances.
- Ordering Medicines: Assisting with the ordering of medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 7 as per authorized instructions, in compliance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 101 of 1965.
- Prescription Processing: Reading and preparing prescriptions, selecting, manipulating, or compounding the medicine, labeling and supplying the medicine in appropriate containers, and providing usage instructions following pharmacist interpretation and evaluation.
- Promoting Health and Safety: Providing information to promote health and the safe use of medicine.
- Adherence to Guidelines: Adhering to Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines as published in the rules of the SAPC, and adhering to timelines.
- Continuous Training: Being willing to undergo continuous training and development programs and attend meetings and training sessions as approved by a supervisor.
Salary Package
The salary for the position of Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant is divided into three grades based on experience:
- Grade 1: R250,947.00 – R285,921.00 per annum (plus service benefits)
- Grade 2: R290,436.00 – R307,221.00 per annum (plus service benefits)
- Grade 3: R313,308.00 – R355,812.00 per annum (plus service benefits)
