Purpose of the RAF Attorney Role
The RAF Attorney: High Court will play a vital role in managing all High Court matters within the Fund. This includes litigation services and a spectrum of tax-related services, such as preparing tax bills of costs in alignment with South African laws. Key Responsibilities
- Policy Review and Implementation
- Participate in developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
- Stay informed about effective strategies for policy execution.
- Preparation for Litigation Matters
- Conduct thorough research to prepare for High Court trials.
- Consult with relevant departments, clients, and witnesses to gather instructions and documentation.
- Draft pleadings and arguments to support the Fund’s legal position.
- Mediation Process
- Oversee the mediation process in compliance with amended court rules.
- Collaborate with mediators and parties to ensure timely completion of the mediation process.
- File joint minutes and notices post-mediation.
- Litigation Representation
- Represent the RAF in third-party claims and litigation matters in High Court proceedings.
- Manage file administration, ensuring adherence to trial schedules and procedural requirements.
- Handle appearances at courts, mediation hearings, and inquiries.
- Settlement of Non-Litigious Matters
- Facilitate early consultations and provide assessments to expedite settlements.
- Approve the appointment of expert witnesses and assessors.
- Provision of Legal Advice
- Deliver well-researched legal opinions and advice on various issues affecting the RAF.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations on legal matters.
- Taxation Services
- Ensure full compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Provide innovative tax planning and consultancy services.
- Stakeholder Management
- Foster effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely invoicing and payments.
- People Management
- Lead and motivate a high-performing team.
- Drive recruitment and workforce development in alignment with employment equity targets.

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent qualification.
- Postgraduate qualification in Law or an equivalent field.
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court or Advocate.
- Right of appearance in the High Court.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5-7 years of legal experience post-graduation or admission, with at least 2 years of expertise in personal injury litigation.
