Key Responsibilities
As a Staff Nurse with the Gauteng Department of Health, you will play a crucial role in supporting community health workers (CHWs) and ensuring the effective delivery of healthcare services in the community. Your primary duties will include:
- Supervision and Training: Provide supervision, monitoring, and ongoing training to community health workers within your team. This includes planning in-service training sessions, conducting household visits to provide adequate supervision, and addressing any challenges the CHWs may encounter.
- Community Engagement: Work closely with ward councilors and other community structures to facilitate community entry, participation, and engagement in overall team activities.
- Data Management: Ensure the proper safe-keeping of reports and resources used, and be responsible for the data generated by the CHWs. You will also be responsible for introducing interventions within the community to address inadequately performing indicators.
- Collaborative Efforts: Collaborate with various sectors such as school health, health promotion, environmental health, and non-profit organizations (NPOs) in community campaigns. Strengthen both upward and downward referrals of WBOT clients within the catchment area to health facilities.
- Intersectoral Collaboration: Work with intersectoral units that deal with housing, water, sanitation, and refuse removal to ensure a holistic approach to community health and wellbeing.
- Reporting and Coordination: Provide monthly reports on the performance of your team and report to the facility manager and district officials overseeing the implementation of WBOT.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Registration: Must be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Staff Nurse.
- Experience: Previous experience in community health work or similar roles will be advantageous.
- Skills: Strong supervisory and leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in data management.
