About NARGA
NARGA supports the ICT needs of students and lecturers in the Faculties of Science and AgriSciences at Stellenbosch University. It ensures that modern technology solutions empower students in their academic journeys and provides essential technical services to ensure seamless operations within lecture venues, computer rooms, and study spaces.
Key Responsibilities
The Technical Officer will perform various tasks to ensure smooth ICT operations. Responsibilities include:
Student and Lecturer Support
- Provide technical support for hardware and software issues, including after-hours support during assessments, inaugural lectures, and seminars.
Administrative Duties
- Manage and report day-to-day tasks, including upgrading and installing computer equipment.
- Schedule and book lecture venues and ensure compliance with safety policies.
- Maintain stores and monitor the NARGA asset register.
- Perform general maintenance and inspect the tidiness of lecture rooms.
Technical Duties
- Ensure all NARGA equipment (computers, projectors, lighting, air conditioning, sound systems) is functional.
- Offer real-time technical assistance during lectures and classes.
- Provide multimedia services during seminars, conferences, and events.
- Manage printers, including maintenance and stock replenishment.
Safety and Reporting
- Act as the safety representative for NARGA venues.
- Submit reports on safety, security, and equipment issues.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- An ICT degree/diploma with two years’ relevant experience.
- An ICT certificate with three years’ relevant experience.
- Four years’ relevant ICT experience.
Additional Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge in hardware and software.
- Analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Certifications: A+ and/or N+.
- Experience with Linux systems.
- Programming or scripting experience (PowerShell, Java, C++).
- Proficiency in at least two official South African languages.
