Nursing College Position Details:

Key Responsibilities:
As the Principal of the Nursing College, you will be responsible for leading and managing the educational and administrative functions of the Free State School of Nursing. Your duties will include:
- Facilitating Nursing Education and Training: Ensuring that student nurses within the catchment area receive high-quality education and training to meet departmental goals.
- Managing Education and Training: Overseeing the educational activities and operations across the college’s three campuses and sub-campuses.
- Human Resources Development: Leading the development of human resources at the college.
- Support Services Management: Overseeing support services such as human resources, library services, student affairs, and the management of material and physical resources.
- Financial Management: Managing the college’s finances to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Corporate Image Enhancement: Promoting and enhancing the image of the Free State School of Nursing and the Department of Health.
- Coordinating Nursing Education: Providing strategic direction and coordination of nursing education within the department.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Nursing
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Post Graduate Qualification in Nursing Education and Nursing Management registered with the SANC.
- Professional Registration:
- Must be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 13 years of appropriate/recognizable experience after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- At least 9 years of the above experience should be in Nursing Education after obtaining a one-year post-basic qualification.
- 5 years of experience in middle management/Senior Managerial level in Administration, Education, or Primary Health Care.
- Completion of the SMS Pre-entry Certificate as offered by the National School of Government (NSG), which must be submitted before appointment.
- Other Requirements:
- Current Registration with the SANC.
- A valid unendorsed driver’s license.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough understanding of various Acts, Regulations, and Policies that impact nursing education management.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Strategic capability, management, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in conflict resolution and public finance management.
- Effective communication, reporting, and networking skills.
- Competent in using computer systems.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Selection Process:
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo a technical exercise to assess their relevant technical skills, which will be communicated by the department.
- Following the interview and technical exercise, successful candidates will be recommended to attend a generic management competency assessment in line with the DPSA Directive on the implementation of competency-based assessments.
- This assessment will test generic managerial competencies using the DPSA SMS competency assessment tools.
