Position Purpose
- Oversee and manage security control room operations.
- Monitor and administer the CCTV system.
- Conduct general security administration to ensure compliance with maritime security requirements under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
Position Outputs
- Surveillance Management:
- Monitor and control CCTV cameras and associated security systems.
- Regularly test and control communication between the control room and on-site guards.
- Security Coordination:
- Coordinate security patrols within the facility.
- Record and report security situations from various sites.
- Communicate changes in security situations to the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) or their delegate.
- Liaise with emergency services and police during security incidents.
- Implement and coordinate instructions from the PFSO, delegate, or management.
- Manage the security response unit and personnel deployment during incidents.
- Field Surveillance and Reporting:
- Oversee field surveillance activities within the port facility.
- Compile and capture incident reports in the Transnet Security Incident Management System (SIMA).
- System and Facility Maintenance:
- Maintain a security system maintenance register, including equipment tests, condition of security features, and power supplies.
- Keep security registers updated and manage the issuance of security permits.
- Monitor hazardous cargo movements and ensure emergency procedures are current.
- Coordination and Liaison:
- Coordinate site inspections by security supervisors and management team visits.
- Liaise with port control and TNPA security control rooms for comprehensive security measures.
- Safeguard and store recorded information as per Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).
- Prepare and present evidence for internal and external hearings as instructed by the PFSO.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Experience:
- 2 years of relevant experience in Port Operations, Maritime Services, or Security.
- Experience in a security control room or similar environment (6-12 months).
- Training: Relevant CCTV operations training, preferably with IP-based systems.
- Certifications: PSIRA registration (Grade C).
- Skills: Computer literacy.

- Understanding of security guarding philosophy and procedures.
- Familiarity with TPT processes, Customs, Immigration, and Ports of Entry Police Procedures.
- Knowledge of the ISPS Code, port operations, hazardous substances, and security systems technology.
- Skills:

- Interpersonal skills, change management, and security awareness.
- Result-oriented with sound judgment and flexibility.
- Negotiation skills and basic knowledge of fire fighting and first aid.
