Position Overview:
The Department of Defence is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Clinical Unit (Medical – Psychiatry) at 2 Military Hospital in Cape Town. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Psychiatry Department, providing inpatient and outpatient services, supervising medical officers and interns, and contributing to academic teaching and lectures.

Requirements:
- Applicable degree in Psychiatry.
- Proof of current registration as a Psychiatrist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), is to be submitted when shortlisted.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a specialist.
- Computer literacy is essential.
- Must be a South African Citizen.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the Psychiatry Department within the hospital.
- Provide both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical officers and interns in training.
- Ensure effective training of interns according to HPCSA guidelines.
- Supervise students undergoing rotations in the Psychiatry and Psychology departments.
- Provide teaching to Registrars and participate in academic teaching and lectures.
- Offer consultant cover and clinical services during after-hours and weekends.
- Establish and maintain an active Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme in the department.
- Undertake managerial tasks, including budgetary estimations, staff discipline, and staff assessments.
