Bergrivier Municipality General Assistant Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance of Parks and Gardens: Perform tasks to maintain the aesthetic and functional quality of parks and gardens, including trimming and shaping vegetation.
- Cleaning Drainage Systems: Attend to the cleaning and upkeep of drainage systems to ensure proper water flow and hygiene.
- Vehicle and Tool Maintenance: Clean vehicles and ensure the storage and care of cleaning tools.
- Weed Eradication: Undertake specific activities to control and eradicate weeds.
- Performance Management: Participate in the Municipality’s Performance Management and Development System.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Basic literacy is required.
- Experience: At least one year of relevant experience.
Requirements
- Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa – Speak, Read, Write).
- Physically fit and able-bodied.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Prepared to enter confined spaces such as manholes, inlets, pipes, and culverts.
- Availability to work outside of normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
- Flexibility to perform duties across the entire municipal area when required.

Salary and Benefits
- Annual Salary: R118,740.00 (T03 of a Category 3 Local Authority)
- Date of Acceptance: 01 September 2024 or as soon as possible.
- A service bonus equivalent to one month’s salary will be payable, supplemented by the normal benefits applicable to the Municipality, including a housing allowance for homeowners subject to certain conditions.
