Requirements:
The ideal candidate for the Junior Fire Fighter position at Midvaal Local Municipality should meet the following qualifications and requirements:
- Education: A Grade 12 certificate is mandatory.
- Training:
- Completion of a Basic Fire Fighting course, including training in grass fire fighting.
- Additional certifications such as Hazmat, Fire Fighter 1 & 2, and a First Aid Certificate are advantageous.
- Basic Ambulance Assistant course completion will be an added advantage.
- Driver’s License: Must hold a valid Code 10 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong report-writing abilities and administrative skills.
- Experience: 2-3 years of experience in firefighting or a related field is highly beneficial.
- Physical Requirements: Candidates must be physically fit, able to swim, and should not have any phobias such as claustrophobia or acrophobia.
- Personal Attributes: Candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with adaptability, analytical thinking, and leadership abilities. Stress management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills are also essential.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Junior Fire Fighter, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Firefighting and Rescue: Providing comprehensive firefighting and rescue services, responding to emergency calls, and performing duties as instructed by the Station Officer or Sub Officer.
- Equipment Maintenance: Testing, cleaning, and ensuring all equipment on firefighting vehicles is functional and prepared for use.
- Documentation: Compiling necessary documentation for standard tests, completing checklists, and submitting them to the Sub Officer.
- Training and Development: Participating in ongoing training sessions to enhance and maintain basic firefighting skills.
- Shift Work: Candidates should be prepared to work in shifts as part of a 24/7 emergency response team.
- Administrative Duties: Performing various administrative tasks as required, ensuring detailed records and efficient management of reports.
Salary and Benefits:
The annual salary for this position ranges from R188,604 to R212,124, based on a Level 10 of a Grade 04 Local Authority. The total remuneration package, inclusive of benefits, amounts to R321,801.76 per annum.
