Junior IT Technician Job Description
The Junior IT Technician is vital to FPD’s smooth operation by supporting its technology infrastructure. This position involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues while helping employees and delegates with technical queries. Whether it’s maintaining IT systems in the office or assisting off-site at conference venues, the IT Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring FPD’s systems run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
As a Junior IT Technician, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Technical Support
Provide timely and efficient responses to IT tickets logged by FPD employees. Ensure that technical issues are resolved promptly to minimize disruptions. - Troubleshooting
Identify and resolve a wide range of hardware and software issues, from malfunctioning laptops and desktops to printer problems and software errors. Your work will ensure the IT systems remain in top shape. - Installation and Configuration
Install and configure computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications. Regularly update and maintain these systems for peak performance. - User Assistance and Training
Assist FPD employees in effectively using technology resources. Offer training where necessary to ensure everyone is comfortable with the systems and tools they are using. - System Upgrades and Maintenance
Perform routine system upgrades and regular maintenance on the FPD IT infrastructure to ensure it runs smoothly. - Network Support and Administration
Set up, configure, and troubleshoot local area networks and other networking equipment to ensure constant connectivity and minimal downtime. - Inventory Management
Keep track of IT assets by managing the department’s storeroom and maintaining an updated inventory. - Supplier and Service Provider Liaison
Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for any equipment repairs, ensuring issues are addressed efficiently. - Reporting
Collaborate with the Finance department to produce reports and handle departmental splits.
Requirements
To qualify for this role, you will need the following:
Educational Qualifications:
- CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ATF+)
- CompTIA A+ Core 1 and Core 2
- CompTIA Network+
- Basic qualifications in the MS Office 365 suite
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in IT technical support and IT administration roles.
Additional Requirements:
- Fluent in English with strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Proficiency in report writing and business communication.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy computer equipment, servers, and printers.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel to other FPD offices and conference venues across South Africa for on-site IT support.
