Key Responsibilities
As a Junior Librarian in the Learning Commons, you will play a vital role in supporting students and staff with library resources, IT equipment, and digital learning tools. Your key duties will include:
- Client Services:
- Assisting students and staff with general library queries.
- Offering guidance on digital and print information resources.
- Digital and Information Literacy Training:
- Conducting training sessions on research skills, database searching, and information literacy.
- Developing e-learning programs and digital literacy materials.
- IT and Software Support:
- Providing assistance with library software, online databases, and electronic equipment.
- Maintaining and troubleshooting IT systems in the Learning Commons and e-classroom.
- Marketing and Communication:
- Promoting Learning Commons services through guides, workshops, and social media.
- Collaborating with faculty and student groups to enhance library services.
- Library Equipment and Software Maintenance:
- Working with the Library IT team to ensure all digital systems and electronic equipment function efficiently.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for the Junior Librarian position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (LIS), or a B-degree plus a postgraduate diploma in LIS.
- At least three years of experience working in an academic library, specifically in a client service role.
- Strong knowledge of information retrieval, database search strategies, metadata, and search engine usage.
- Experience in digital and information literacy training and the ability to conduct workshops.
- Basic knowledge of IT functionality, MS Office, and e-learning software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with students and staff.
Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous)
- Previous experience working in a Learning Commons or similar academic environment.
