Key Responsibilities
1. Employee Relations Strategy
- Develop and implement employee relations policies and strategies that promote a positive work culture.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation such as the Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), and Collective Agreements.
- Manage conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures effectively.
- Lead change management efforts and policy development to foster a progressive work environment.
2. Relationship Management
- Represent NSFAS in all labour-related negotiations, including wage discussions, CCMA cases, and labour court proceedings.
- Keep detailed records of all labour-related meetings and ensure compliance with collective agreements.
- Oversee the management of employee queries, ensuring timely responses and follow-ups.
3. Line Manager Support
- Provide expert guidance to HRBPs and line managers on handling employee relations matters.
- Assist in drafting disciplinary charge sheets and notices for hearings.
- Identify employee relations risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
4. Employee Relations Awareness and Training
- Organise training sessions to enhance understanding of labour relations among employees and management.
- Develop and update training materials based on legislative changes and organisational needs.
5. Employee Wellness
- Lead the development and implementation of employee wellness programs that address physical, mental, and emotional health.
- Work closely with external service providers to deliver high-quality wellness initiatives, such as fitness programs, mental health workshops, and stress management courses.
- Evaluate wellness programs and suggest improvements based on employee feedback and participation rates.
6. Employment Equity
- Support the development and implementation of the Employment Equity (EE) Strategy in line with national legislation.
- Ensure compliance with EEA reporting requirements and track workplace demographics to meet EE targets.
- Regularly review and improve EE processes, ensuring accurate reporting and analysis of employee development statistics.
7. Research, Benchmarking, and Best Practice
- Keep up to date with changes in labour laws and advise management on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
- Conduct research and benchmarking to implement industry best practices in employee relations and wellness.
8. Governance, Risk, and Compliance
- Ensure the unit adheres to all relevant laws, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Present reports and updates to NSFAS executives and other stakeholders.
- Lead the risk management process within the unit, maintaining a risk register and supporting audits.
9. Stakeholder Management and Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote employee relations and wellness.
- Act as an advocate for employee relations issues, providing informed guidance to NSFAS’s leadership.
10. People Management
- Lead a cohesive team, managing talent acquisition, retention, and succession planning within the unit.
- Drive a high-performance culture by setting clear performance goals and nurturing talent through continuous coaching and mentoring.
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- NQF Level 8 qualification in Labour Relations, Human Resources, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in employee relations, with 5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge and experience with South African Labour Law, including dispute resolution.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing employee wellness programs.
Preferred:
- NQF Level 9 qualification in Labour Relations, Human Resources, or related field.
- 10 years of experience in managing labour relations matters.
